Let’s clear up a common misconception. Self-care does not mean being self-indulgent or selfish. Self-care means taking care of yourself so that you can be healthy, you can help and care for others, and you can do all the things you need and want to accomplish in a day. In other words by practising self-care you will be more likely to be able to deal with life’s every day stresses and let’s face it, there are lots!
World Mental Health Day is observed every year on the 10th October. The World Health Organisation runs the annual campaign and this year’s theme is ‘Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority'. We have written this blog to encourage you to focus on your own mental health through prioritising self-care for your emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing.
Self care is an investment in your health and wellbeing for the short and long term. It requires checking in with yourself and asking yourself how you’re doing and what your body’s asking for. Self-care does not mean the same thing for everyone, and different people will adopt different self-care practices. If it isn’t something that you currently practice, we suggest starting small, pencil time out in your diary and find an activity that brings you joy.
